During a fierce battle, they were joined by a barbarian ally and tremendous numbers of other barbarians joined them once the danger had clearly passed. They are now considering their next step to try to take the boulder relic, clearly valued by the barbarians. They consider attempting to trick them and offer to take care of the boulder, given the relative success fighting the stone giants – maybe even tell them that more giants are on the way? Thoradin is stoned and not sure, but he is clearly the most revered by the barbarians. Gunther considers magic mouth. The dragon boat hovers overhead. ———————————————————- Player reminder – let the dungeon master know about our next movement. Beorunna’s Well for a new relic? ———————————– Quests:– Taking relics from the Barbarian burial grounds to the All Father Collecting relics will give them access to paths to the Storm Court (1/9 collected – the Shield from the Valley of Kedrun – currently displayed on the side of the dragon boat) – Accessing the King Hecaton conch to root out the evil in the King’s court – Seeking the powerful weapon in the possession of Cerise (Hecaton’s daughter on the throne) – Avenging the slain cloud giant (Igorn) who was killed by his father |
Last week (flash backs) | After parking the Dragon Boat, they travel 1 kilometre and are met by Stone Giants that seem to be screaming without noise. They consider sending Rillix with a note to call for help. Battle highlights: Giant foes and Barbarian allies They find themselves in furious battle with the giants, in an area surrounded by Cairns to commemorate the dead. Miss Moss is thrown off a cliff when she tries to use her giant-slaying sword. Gunther has also taken a few blows to the head. During a tremendous fight, they notice one of the giants picking up a giant boulder with blue, glowing text, the giant gathers it into his chest and begins to walk away with it. They realise – it’s the relic they seek.Amongst the chaos, they hear someone screaming in Bothe, the Utgarde language. They see a figure racing towards the giants, arms raised. Leshanna hears some voices from the woods beyond. The nearby giant begins to retreat. Thoradin takes his chance and shoots off a guiding bolt and the giant collapses, looking at the sky with a beam of light pouring up to the sky. His eyes glow green as he crumples to the floor. The two other giants turn and watch with amazement and horror. The fight continues, it is long and exhausting and they are still facing two giants. Miss Moss is still down the cliff. Leshanna is reluctant to summon the dragon boat for help but the rest of the gang agrees it’s time. Gunther takes out his bagpipes and plays a tune that sounds vaguely like it is droning “Never going to give you up…”. They are not sure if it was successful as a summon, but Gunther is very pleased with his song. The barbarian running at them makes a sound, they think they can hear him say “Cowards!”.The giant with the boulder continues to turn in the other direction. They continue to fight the other. Londer comes up with a new catch phrase: “Get prone!” Miss Moss does a special bird whistle and Gunther shimmies down towards her. From down the cliff, Miss Moss reaches up to grab his tail, which raises her up. Gunther makes a big groaning noise from the effort. Miss Moss flails around and bashes her shins as she reaches the top together and they sit there laughing before joining the battle again.Gunther does a sad spanish dance and passes on some inspiration to Londer. The running figure reaches the cliff, he launches into the cliff face, using his axe to climb up. He is clear to them now, a barbarian with a glorious beard. He remains perched on the edge of the cliff, yelling. He attacks the giants. Londer continues to chip away at the giant’s knees, Thoradin reaches into the wound and lays down some necrotic damage. Grey colour oozes up and his black veins creep up through the giants legs. He keels over. Thoradin glares at the other giant in warning, his eyes full of blood lust. Miss Moss lets out an impressed woop. Just after the second giant falls, from the forest they see the bushes rustle all around. They hear war cries from the other side of the river. Tens of figures from the barbarian tribe dash out screaming out and running toward them to support the fight. The barbarian nearby calls out clearly disparaging words at them for waiting so long. They continue to fight, the bromance between Londer and Gunther continues as bardic inspiration is given again. The barbarian starts yelling things into the giant’s face and attacks. The giant holds in one hand the boulder, with glowing text. He pulls out his club and hits back, doing tremendous damage. The other barbarians now attack and the giant is overwhelmed. Miss Moss pushes everyone back and strides up with her giant slaying sword. “Stay back”, she says. The sword glitters in her hand. She swings and misses. She looks back over her shoulder, grips it tighter and swings again. She misses, drops the sword and turns and walks away. All the other barbarians swarm back. The one barbarian who joined them at first reaches in and cleaves off his head, which rolls into the stream and the water runs blood. After the battle ends: Thoradin takes out his pipe with some pipe weed. All is well. Miss Moss takes out a muesli bar and inspects the totems. They are in the figure of a pegasus. The red boat appears overhead, responding to Gunther’s summon. They realise they are in a pressing situation, as the dozens and dozens of barbarians stand around. Miss Moss calls out, “Does anyone speak Common?” The bravest of all the barbarians struts around. He has an arrow sticking of of him, the wound seems to be very old. He has broken the end of the arrow off but it’s still sticking out of him. He strings together some words in Common. Thoradin offers to heal the wound. The barbarian shrugs it off, definitely not open to this offer in front of any audience. “My name is Anzan and you are brave warriors. We thank you for what you’ve done. These useless fucking ones could have done something themselves.” A little flurry of activity and mutters ripple through the crowd and he silences them. “We thank you for saving our sacred stone of Utgarde that the Sky Pony tribe holds.” He doesn’t know what the words mean and confirms it is from a giant. They are clearly in awe of the adventurers, particularly Thoradin, following his great fatalities before them. |
