The journey to retrieve the pipeweed begins
A little into the journey with Felgalos the bronze dragon to get his pipeweed. He is carrying on the back of the cart that the Zentarum carried with them. He is flapping his enormous wings and carrying the cart in his talons. Londer is astride the dragon.
Flying through the air. Londer’s blonde hair is nearly as radiant as the dragon scales. It is his ultimate expression of adventure. The horses are hidden in the bush. The sun is beginning to set. As beautiful as it is, they are all very high
Miss Moss is lying down in the cart, holding on and getting some splinters. Thoradin has taken his grappling hook and wrapped it around him he’s enjoying the ride. Leshanna has used her spider staff to web herself and Rillix into the seat, trying to look graceful but actually just looking like a webbed wizard with a cranky cat.
The flapping of the wings has taken on a meditative quality. A big deep voice says “Get some sleep, travellers – Us dragons don’t need much sleep.”
Thoradin has had a bit to drink and lapsing in and out of sleep. Miss Moss is freezing and has tried to climb into the bag of holding like a sleeping bag. It’s not giving much warmth.
Londer, sitting astride the dragon feels fairly secure and thinks the dragon smells fantastic. His pride stops him from climbing down into the cart with the others even though he may be a little cold.
The dragon falls asleep and they all begin rushing towards the ground – the team wakes up. Londer calls out “Dragon, DRAGON – wake up!” He wakes and corrects.
The wind picks up, Felgalos calls out “Hold tight, chums – fierce winds through here.” He keeps flying through some strong winds, gets buffeted over a few times. One huge sideways buffets causes one of his claws to fall off the cart and it all spills. The harpoons start falling. Thoradin grasps frantically for the ropes but they all plummet to the ground.
Leshanna feels like she saw a large, green creature on a rock but looks again and it is gone.
Felgalos moves towards the ground, places the cart down, lands in front and morphs back into his halfling form.
The are in the desert of Anoroth. Ahead there is a mountainous reach, with stone doors cut into them. That is where the road ends. Felgalos skips ahead muttering “Here it is!”
On either side of the doors are plynths that line either side. All of them are empty except for one, a hue statue of a dragon cut from blackstone, perched on the side of the door.
“Shall we set up camp?” Felgalos asks.
They set up a camp. Thoradin goes hunting for deadwood to make a hearty fire. They pull away the wagon off the road – there’s no traffic to speak of but just in case, Londer sets up a small patrol. Thoradin and Leshanna investigate the rocks – it is dwarven, ancient handiwork. The dragon statue seems out of place. Thoradin sees some old language suggesting this was an old settlement, a fabled ruin named Askor.
They are camping a little way away. At the campfire, Felgalos asks, “What’s the plan?’
“You tell us, little man or big dragon or whatever you are” says Thoradin.
“I need my pipeweed, there are two dragons that have my pipeweed. I think we are best to attack during the day. The dragons will be out of their lairs, leaving their hordes unprotected. It makes it easier for us to be seen. If we attack at night, the dragons will be inside their lair. The dragons are names Anaxeter and Chesarin are the dragons.” The pipeweed is in a silver pouch, marked with a Y from Yondala, an old friend.
Thoradin calls on his deity for guidance. He is not really helpful.
They agree to go in the day and get some sleep.
The walk up to the large stone doors and give a heaving push – they open pretty readily, leading to an underground passage that goes deep into the mountain. They make their way through into the dark. As they walk through it goes for some way. After about half a mile, things start to rumble, stones start to fall from above. A boulder comes flying down and catches 3 of them: Thoradin, Leshanna and Miss Moss.
Thoradin heals the party and they prepare to go into the area. They think should split up
Thoradin notices that there are runes, in relation to the god of secrets and protector of the dead.
They try to move through stealthily in the area. Thoradin douses himself in water and rolls around in the sand, moving carefully and then moving forward, looking like a little sand mound.
They move into a room in the north. It appears to be a residence, with signs of a battle – but it appears to have been battles within the last 2 months. There is a stone door into the next room. They put their ear to the door, it is not looked. Through the crack, a gruesome scene: a scorched human corpse. It appears to have been a man who was wearing wizard robes. The shattered stone are parts of a statue of a dragon. Above, there is a hole in the roof. In the room there is a major spellbook, it is secured with a glyph of warding.
Leshanna casts dispel magic and unearths a spell book with the following spells.
They move on towards the next room and looking out and see two large, stone docks. The earth below falls away as there is a ship half-buried in the sand with its hull sticking up. This was once an ocean and a dock leading out but has since been claimed by the erosion of the desert. There are two fully grown adult blue dragons.
They decide to send Rillix. He squeezes through the crack and finds himself in the open and moves towards the hole in the ship, crawling over the ground. He reaches the ruin and onto the dock. Sprawling up there is an upturned ship. On top of the broken ship there appears to be things moving on top. As he gets close to the ship, he scampers up, sees down the hole in the interior of the ship there is an enormous worm skeleton. It’s at least 30 feet to the floor and there are crawling carrion creatures. At the end of the ship there is treasure – a huge pile of glittering gold, artefacts and gems.
Silently flying across the top of the ship, his wings almost brushing the top he manages to escape the sight of the carrion creatures. He descends and finds himself on top of a pile of treasure – a dragon’s horde. Gold pieces, artefacts. On the far point of the ship there is a small crack in the sand that leads out.
He makes his way out of a small hole – the shadow of the ship gives him some cover. There are some stone gargoyles in the shape of a dragon. He sees a large pile of gold, jewels and artefacts. Leshanna summons Rillix back and he comes back successfully.
Miss Moss makes a flour glue and creates a sand cloak and all of them do the same thing. They ask Felgalos to stay watch. They move on their bellies along towards the dock, along the edge of the boat to the crack. They make it to underneath the dock. One of the dragons thought he saw something and the playing stops. They find themselves inside the ship. They go up to the pile and Miss Moss starts looking around. She reaches in, looks back and sees the creatures moving around in the dark.
