To Silvery Moon!

The adventurers are moving north towards Silvery Moon, beautiful land to all passing through. Silvery Moon is the pinnacle of the intelligencia. Leshanna is excited to be going there.

Silvery Wood is the stuff of myth and legends for elves and Lia looks around in awe. She notices a disturbance in the undergrowth, and signs of damage, as if something big has moved through. There are no animals or birds around, which seems odd.

Thoradin is bonding with his new ram, Shep, feeling very proud and quite cool. Leshanna’s eyes are rolling back in her head with the spectacle with the ram. Lia is jumping on and off the back of the ever-patient Patricia, surveying with her poking stick and eagle eyes. It’s nice weather, a beautiful day.

The swan song of the basic

Up ahead on a hill there is a clearing with the ruins of an old tower, replete with circling birds, the sun flashing red on wings. They hear a very low, strange sound coming from the direction of the tower, which is about 200 feet into the forest.

Leshanna sends Rillix off to have a look and as he approaches the birds, he can see they are hawks. His hackles rise.  He sends his vision to Leshanna: a whole side of the tower has collapsed.

The unusual sound is clearer now as it transmits via Rellix – it sounds like a creature, but it is unclear what kind until Leshanna realises she recognises some words. It’s a sad song, very basic, sung by a female voice in Giant. “Moog is sad and hungry“. Leshanna calls Rillix back.

Lia, who can also understand the sad but basic giant song, starts to creep through the forest towards the tower to see what she can see. The words of the song become clearer.

Moog so sad, Moog so very sad.
Moog so sad that she sad.
Moog throw rock at Hruk but Moog too sad because Hruk gone.
Moog smash Ga but Ga too big.
So so sad.
But Moog hungry and sad.

It is not a good song. There are sobs. Lia can now see the hawks are blood hawks. Lia returns to the team and reports that the Giant is sad and crazy, and that there’s a boulder in front of the door to the tower.

Thoradin has a look of “here we go again”. Gunther considers playing the blues on the lute but after some very brief discussion with Miss Moss regarding the mood, decides on the flute.

As they approach it is very loud. Gunther gets out the bagpipes instead. Leshanna calls out to the giant, “We’d like to help you!”. Moog asks who is there, and upon realising they are not giants, is repulsed.

“Small folk! Moog hate small folk. Moog is hungry.”

Lia offers goodberries, which are mocked by Moog. The boulder gets rolled across and there is a very ugly hill giant.

Moog, despite her mockery, takes the goodberry and eats it, immediately becoming full and turning her attention to the task at hand. She wants her boyfriend-husband back.

“Chief Ga take all of our husbands. She big so that is good. But she mean.” They talk for a while about what’s happening, and it seems that Chief Ga has taken everyone’s husbands for reasons Moog cannot fathom. The husband-less Hill Giant womenfolk have not banded together to find their husbands or found comfort in one another. Instead, Moog has sat crying, hungry and alone in her crumbling tower.

In a lame attempt to add some cheer to the situation as they take leave, Miss Moss leads the party in “If you’re happy and you know it”. It’s uncomfortable and embarrassing to everyone – Moog is not happy and doesn’t know the song. They trail off halfway. Lia gives Moog a pity berry and they make their polite escape, hoping to make friends with the Hill Giant in future and make an alliance.

Welcome to Rivendale, folks

The adventurers continue into Silvery Moon. The forest thickens and the road dips into a valley where the gang emerges into the incredibly ornate, curved Elvish town. It’s quite a place, with magically large trees, and buildings and structures built into these trees. They see the Moon Bridge – a magical bit of silvery light, a translucent bridge over the river.

Silvery Moon is by far the most beautiful place they have ever seen. It has been built in the style of the Elvish city but is not actually an Elvish city. Tricky, huh? The town is diverse, full of different creatures, scholars and mages. This city used to have a mithal – a protective ward and imaginal realm that meant that magic could not be practised. Any magic that was destructive would be stopped. The mithal was disrupted a while ago and is an old protective ward that now works only in certain areas of the town.  There is a very famous temple of Oghma here.

Leshanna purchases “Dispel Magic” and everyone chips in. While she learns, the others explore Silvery Moon.

Londer and Thoradin go wandering, looking for armour for their very different mounts.  Lia looks for a Gryphon master and she is directed to a town near Luskin in the north-west, Fireshire. It’s up near Icewingdale. The town is known for its gryphons. The gang buy some potions and prepare for mission.

Trying it on

Miss Moss remembers that the woman from Calling Horns – the wizard – her surname was Magastar. The woman was avenging her brother who was murdered by Cora. The gang, trying to be inconspicuous, approach the lane.

On the top floor of the tower and the carriage-house, lanterns burn. There are guards in the carriage-house according to Orthovir. Leshanna does an arcana check but is a little far away to get a proper reading.

After much discussion of how to proceed to get the magic weapons from the carriage-house, Thoradin takes the first step and dispels the arcane lock. Londer gets ready to pour wine on his head and roll in the mud as a distraction. Lia and Miss Moss keep an eye out for any trouble from the sides of the buildings.

Gunther and Leshanna hold hands and go invisible, opening the door. Leshanna casts Dispel Magic to clear the room of magic spells, briefly removing their invisibility. Gunther casts invisibility again.

The weapons were supposed to be under the seat. Leshanna reaches under the seat, feels a latch and opens it, instead of revealing magic weapons, unveils a staircase. Without thinking, they creep down. They are surprised to see a cosy room, with an altar – and bright red blood splashed everywhere.

Outside, the rest of the gang are getting nervous. They decide they want to go investigate. They creep forward and peer through the door.

Suddenly two heads come over the balcony. The guards look over and see the stagecoach door open. They jump over and in mid-air they sprout wings and become fiery demons. They have infernal armour, they are Canbeans, they have horns, they are offspring of demons or fiends.

Gunther and Leshanna are still invisible.
